Potty competence is an incredible gift of autonomy and independence. When we support children through the process of gaining toilet independence we are supporting their ability to take control of one of the most critical and closely held bodily functions. The process can be challenging but is ultimately worth it. In this session, we will discuss the signs of readiness and the psychological and cognitive milestones that make it successful. We will learn how to prepare ourselves, the child, and the environment prior to beginning, provide practical best practices, and discuss how to support the child beyond diapers.
In this live virtual session, participants will:
1. Learn the signs of readiness for potty learning.
2. Prepare the child, caregiver, and environment for success.
3. Understand the role of toilet competencies in emotional development.
